Benefits Of Underfloor Heating
Warm water UFH uses far lower flow temperatures than a traditional radiator system, and because it covers a much larger surface area it is still able to heat the room effectively. For this reason, UFH is around 25% more efficient than an equivalent radiator system. It works by heating your home from the floor upwards keeping your toes nice and warm and your head cool.
Perfectly suited to open plan living
UFH is an ‘invisible’ heating system as the tube is hidden beneath the floor. This frees up precious wall space, ideal for open plan living and rooms such as kitchens where space is at a premium.
UFH has no exposed hot or sharp edges – a safe option for young children and the elderly. It is also a good choice for allergy sufferers or anyone with asthma as the warmth provided is free from draughts and dust movements that can aggravate these conditions.
With UFH, the heat gently emits upwards from the floor. This gives the luxurious feel of warm feet and a cool head without any cold spots or draughts common with radiator systems. UFH also warms any usually cold floor coverings, such as tiles or engineered wood.
Why Are So Many People Choosing Underfloor Heating?
The concept of ‘heat rises’ is exactly what makes underfloor heating a great alternative over traditional radiators. Our underfloor heating system pumps warm water through pipes under the floor and adopts the principle that heat rises, where heat is evenly distributed in the area from below, leaving no cold spots in the room. When you think of underfloor heating, you think luxury. Warm hotel bathroom floors beneath your feet, heating them up to the right temperature. But you could indulge in this luxury every day, in the comfort of your own home, in any room.
Underfloor heating provides the extra added benefit of keeping your feet nice and warm whilst your head stays cool, giving your body an even temperature. In comparison to normal radiators, which are less efficient as they provide heat around them which travels upwards.
Standard radiators have to work harder for you to feel the heat as they require the water temperature to be higher to work effectively. This is not the case with underfloor heating, as it disperses heat evenly in a room, requiring the water to be at a lower temperature for it to work effectively, which also allows your boiler to work more efficiently.
It is proven that underfloor heating systems are around 25% more efficient than an equivalent radiator system.
Think about stone, wood or tile flooring with underfloor heating built in, the heat is retained, which means that opening a window will not affect the amount of heat in the room. In comparison to normal radiators, the heat dissipates, as soon as a draft enters a room. This issue could be eliminated with an underfloor heating system.
Underfloor heating systems are also a safer option, in comparison to traditional radiator systems as they have no hot or sharp edges, which instantly makes it safer for children and elderly people. Allergy and asthma sufferers will also reap the benefits of underfloor heating systems, as the warmth provided is free from draughts and dust movements that can worsen these conditions.
If you like to avoid clutter in your home and are striving for a clean minimalistic look in your new build, renovation or a single area (like a bathroom, kitchen or conservatory) an underfloor heating system might be ideal for you. With our system you will be getting rid of a bulky radiator, that you would rather not see, as it would be out of view, but you would still be getting the warmth and comfort in your home. This feature of underfloor heating systems make them ideal for open plan living spaces and rooms such as kitchens where space is at a premium.
We believe that every home should keep you and your family warm in the best possible way, and we think that our warm water underfloor heating systems are a great alternative to provide you with comfort and toasty feet.
Underfloor Heating FAQ's
Our underfloor heating systems work by pumping warm water through pipes under the floor, from a heat source such as boiler or heat pump the pipes are embedded in the floor. This is known as a ‘wet’ system. It adopts the principle that heat rises as the warmth from under the floor is radiated into a room.
Yes, underfloor heating is up to 25% cheaper to run than radiators with a condensing boiler and up to 40% cheaper to run with a heat pump, according to EuRay 2005.
We carry out a free home survey so that you can see if your property is suitable for underfloor heating.
We establish what system will best suit your home and be the most cost-effective and least disruptive option for you.
We check for floor heights and areas you want to heat as our systems don't have to be installed throughout the whole house.

No, any boiler will work. Underfloor heating works with gas, oil and LPG boilers as well as heat pumps.
Yes, you can. For example, we take out the radiators on the ground floor and we then blank all but one feed off and we will use that to run your new UFH system.
It can be, as each room has to be cleared and accessed, so ideally it's a job best done before you move in. However, if you are just having one room done then it shouldn't cause too much of a disruption.
The time of installation is different for each floor construction, and we will be able to advise on timescales at the quote stage.
We pressure test each system thoroughly to ensure that there are no leaks. The only way the pipework will leak is if someone else damages the system, for example, by nailing something through the floor. However, if the pipe leaks at the manifold, it is a simple, 5-minute job to repair.
Yes, the pipework is guaranteed for life.
No, installing a thermostat requires electrical work that must be carried out by a Part P qualified electrician.
Yes, it can and it poses many different benefits from decreased energy consumption to free up living space as radiators aren’t needed. Underfloor heating can be used as the primary source of heat as long as the rooms have the right amount of insulation. A heat loss calculation needs to be made to establish how much heat is needed to heat each room and whether the insulation levels allow underfloor heating to use a whole-house system. Heat loss calculations are carried out by a builder, architect or a heating engineer. There are also heat loss calculators available online, if you know the information.
Radiators mainly work on the principle of heat convection, not radiation. Air is heated to a high temperature in the range of 65-75 degrees and needs to be moved from the radiator to the rest of the room. This is achieved using thermal currents of hot air moving to the ceiling, cooling and falling to create an air cycle. Underfloor heating systems use considerably less energy than radiator systems, heating the floor mass rather than the air.
Yes, if you are on a new build. However, you won’t be able to if you are renovating.
Yes as this stops the heat from going into the ground.
It dries at 1mm per day, although certain boilers do not have a UFH mod which considerably speeds the drying process up.
We cover Cheshire, South Manchester, Manchester and Staffordshire, in the UK.
Yes, the best way to operate UFH is to establish the temperature you are comfortable with and we then set the thermostat at that temperature. The system then just looks after itself.

It will work with any floor covering apart from solid wood due to the fact that solid wood is a breathing material and will shrink and expand at different times.
